2.22 BLACKOUT
WE ARE BLACK HISTORY.
Saturday, February 22, 2025 we celebrated Black History while also coming together to gather resources for our neighbors in Southwest Detroit affected by flooding.
City Sweat Club Founder, Gabrielle Wilson, is paving the way for a movement that goes beyond fitness. “It’s about coming together in the name of health and wellness to uplift and elevate each other—physically, emotionally, spiritually, and professionally.” Since its inception, City Sweat Club (CSC) has strategically partnered with local leaders and brands who share a common mission—putting people first.
This commitment to community has led to a powerful partnership with Nike Detroit. “Nothing compares to Nike Detroit,” says Gabrielle. “Serving the community alongside the Swoosh has not only impacted my life but also deepened my love and admiration for the brand. This is entirely because of the incredible people I’ve connected with through this partnership.” Detroit Team Management leaders Melany Silva-Gonzalez and Richelle Hawkins have been instrumental to the program. Their dedication goes beyond sales; they are genuinely invested in serving the community. Nike Marketplace EKIN, Dan Eastland, has also joined the Club, enriching the community experience by offering trial runs and walks in the latest Nike Running releases. “Together, we Just Do It for community,” Gabrielle reflects.
Several key partnerships along Woodward Avenue have expanded CSC’s reach. Actor, philanthropist, and award-winning author Hill Harper, owner of Roasting Plant Detroit, continues to lead community and cultural impact worldwide. “We are honored to share space with Roasting Plant for our Saturday Pop-Up Community Runs and deeply appreciate their support in all of our community work. Good is moving,” says Gabrielle.
Charles Boayue, City Sweat Club member and owner of Reveal Enterprises Inc., prints all CSC merchandise from his home studio. Previously involved in projects for the Detroit Pistons, Charles selectively works with missions that inspire him. “What a blessing it has been to connect over our passion for running. Now, Chuck runs all production of our products!” Gabrielle shares.
As Black History Month comes to a close, we want to leave you with this thought: Whether through steps, sips, or strides in public service, these Black leaders are making a difference in Detroit. A final note from Coach Gab, “We encourage you to support our partners this final week of Black History Month. But more importantly, we invite you to keep moving for impact beyond February.”
